Description

Extremely rare bike.

One year only and only sold in Japan, the CBR250R Hurricane MC17 is, it’s fair to say, a rare beastie. Not to be confused with the half cowled MC14 from a year earlier or the later MC19s and 22s.

The MC17 was only sold for one year, and only in Japan. It superseded the semi-cowled MC14 and was one of the first sports bikes to feature fully enclosed bodywork. It is powered by a 16 valve, four cylinder, 4-stroke double OHC engine engineered by Shoichiro Iramijiri, the designer of the CBX and Honda’s F1 engines in the sixties. It delivers 45HP at 15,000rpm and 23.5Nm of torque at 11,500rpm. (The later models had reduced power.)

The frame is twin tube aluminium, it has electric start, six speed transmission and front and disc rear brakes – none of which is remarkable by itself but the end result is spectacular. The only problem (apart from limited availability) is that the few that do remain are often pretty badly dinged up.

Ours is beautiful. The bodywork, seat, exhaust, engine and wheels all look superb. For any thirty-seven-year-old bike this is unusual, but for a sportsbike with this kind of power, it is ultra-rare. Just 8,676km (5,388 miles) on the clock and very clean. It has had plenty of work done to ensure it runs well and it runs brilliantly. This is a special opportunity to get a beautiful piece of Japanese motorcycle history.

UK registered. It has been fitted with an MPH converter. The speed reading, although showing as kph, is in miles. This was done relatively recently so the mileage is pretty much as read. (If this bike is going overseas, the mph converter can be removed.)
