Description

Just arrived, January 2025.

The Punchy pocket rocket YSR80 is now a legendary bike despite only being in production for 6 years. Towards the back end of the eighties, when Japan was reaching peak purchasing power the big four makers went all out to provide faster, sleeker and more sophisticated machines.

At the same time, however, they loved to supply niche markets and identified a demand for small-bore, lightweight, compact machines that could be races on the track or put on the road.

In 1986 Yamaha released the YSR50 and the YSR80. From a distance there was really nothing to distinguish them from the 750cc sportsbikes to which they paid homage. In fact, even close-up they looked the same – just they looked like they were far away due to their tiny stature.

The engineering behind these bikes was deadly serious, however. The 5-speed 2-stroke YSR50 and especially the 80 were quick and great fun to flick around corners. As with everything else they built, the Japanese manufacturers built these min-racers to the highest possible standards.

And that is why, nearly 40 years on, they not only still have a massive following, but they can also be found in really good condition. These things will rev through the gears, getting up to top speed in no time and still stop on the proverbial 50-yen piece.

Here we have a first-year model in really nice, original condition. It didn’t arrive in time to undergo the usual full checks in Japan before being loaded on the container but we have had it running. When it arrives, we will put it through a comprehensive check. If we discover any issues, we will take care of them.

This bike has been put through the NOVA system. Registration can be arranged for a fee of £165, this includes the Dating Certificate, MOT, Registration, UK log book and age related number plate.

We can deliver, please confirm your postcode for a quote.  Delivery/Collection can take place either after the MOT (while waiting for the log book) or once the log book has been received.  The motorcycle cannot be ridden on the public highway until the bike is registered and fitted with its number plate. Road tax & insurance are your responsibility as the new keeper.

A deposit of 30% will secure the bike, we would not ask for further payment until the bike is ready for collection or delivery.  If the customer cancels the sale we will refund 50% of the deposit
